A Russian ally will be the candidate for Armenian Prime Minister.

The Armenia bloc has nominated former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan as its candidate for prime minister. Parliamentary elections are scheduled for June 7.

As a reminder, in the 2021 elections, incumbent Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's Civil Contract party won 53.92% of the vote, while Kocharyan's Armenia bloc received 21.04%.

Robert Kocharyan, known for his ties to the Kremlin, has previously faced serious charges. He was accused of accepting a $3 million bribe (the case was dismissed due to the expiration of the statute of limitations) and overthrowing the constitutional order. The latter charge related to the 2008 events in Yerevan, when 10 people were killed as a result of the dispersal of a demonstration.
