Azerbaijan is introducing a new information platform of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP). It aims to simplify the search for and identification of persons during the Karabakh wars. The system will also allow citizens of Azerbaijan and Armenia to confidentially transmit information about missing persons and burial sites.
According to Sharafat Hasanov, Deputy Head of the State Security Service of Azerbaijan, this platform is designed to consolidate information in a single space. The servers will be located within Azerbaijan. Access will be granted only to qualified personnel who have undergone special training.
"This system will provide citizens of both Azerbaijan and Armenia with the opportunity to anonymously exchange information. All incoming information will be strictly used within the framework of humanitarian activities. Azerbaijan is open to partnership with Armenia in resolving issues related to missing persons," Hasanov noted at an international conference on missing persons in Baku. A total of 4,010 people are registered with the State Commission on Missing Persons of Azerbaijan. Of these, 4,004 went missing during the First Karabakh War, and six during the 44-day Second Karabakh War.
Earlier, Baku and Yerevan proposed creating an independent DNA database to search for those missing during the First and Second Karabakh Wars.
