The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, expressed concern about the situation in Georgia, which is "taking a serious turn," emphasizing that the country's government is "moving in the wrong direction." This statement was made ahead of a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the EU member states.
Kallas noted that, in addition to the visa restrictions for diplomats already introduced on March 6, other possible steps will be discussed.
Earlier, the EU decided to suspend visa-free travel for Georgian representatives using diplomatic and service passports. This decision followed mutual complaints between Brussels and Tbilisi, as well as EU demands that Georgia change course and return to the European development path.
The EU has repeatedly accused the current Georgian government of human rights violations, political repression, arrests of opposition figures, and a pro-Russian stance.
