On the night of August 12–13, residents of Chechnya will be able to witness the peak of the Perseid meteor shower—one of the year's most famous celestial displays. Viewing conditions are particularly favorable this year: the peak coincides with the new moon, meaning bright moonlight won't interfere with spotting the meteors.

Severe weather has left 77 settlements across Russia's Republic of Dagestan without electricity, while flooding has cut off road access to five villages after damaging roads and bridges, regional authorities said on August 10.
According to the Dagestan branch of Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry (EMERCOM), emergency power outages had affected 77 settlements in 11 districts as of 10:50 a.m. Moscow time. Earlier that morning, officials reported outages in 51 settlements across seven districts, including Untsukulsky, Akushinsky, Tabasaransky, Kulinsky and Gunibsky.

The Russian government will provide an additional 4.4 billion rubles to Chechnya and Dagestan to address the aftermath of spring floods. The funds will be used for the major repair of damaged homes and the purchase of new housing for families whose homes were deemed uninhabitable.
