The natural disaster that struck the North Caucasus and southern Russia continues to cause serious damage. Flooded homes, hail-destroyed crops, overturned ships, and human tragedies—the consequences of this unruly weather are becoming increasingly tangible.

Yesterday evening, a heavy downpour with hail and squalls lashed the capital of Karachay-Cherkessia. The storm began around 10:00 PM. Residents of the republic are posting videos on social media featuring powerful thunderclaps and bright flashes of lightning.

Over the past half-century, the ice cover on Mount Elbrus has noticeably shrunk, retreating by approximately 300 meters. Natalia Kondratieva, Doctor of Geographical Sciences and head of the Glaciology Laboratory at the High Mountain Geophysical Institute, attributed this to a rise in air temperature of almost one degree Celsius and increased precipitation.

The Mussa-Achitara peak in Dombay (Karachay-Cherkessia), located at an altitude of over 3,000 meters, is covered in snow.
