Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev has commented on Armenia’s plans to begin preparing an application to join the European Union, saying Yerevan would ultimately fail to secure EU membership but could seriously damage its relations with Russia and other members of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

Former Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has been charged with new corruption. According to the prosecutor's office, the charges relate to the alleged conspiracy to accept a particularly large bribe by a group of individuals.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan congratulated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Ukraine's Independence Day. Overnight into August 24, drones attacked several regions in southern Russia. The consequences were most tragic in Krasnodar: drone debris fell on a private children's center, killing two children and injuring seven other children and two adults. This was reported by Veniamin Kondratyev, the governor of Krasnodar Krai.

Azerbaijan intends to continue developing relations with Russia, despite the deteriorating media narrative surrounding Baku in Russian outlets. Rahman Mustafayev, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Russia, stated this in an interview with RTVI.

The Armenian government plans over the next five years to formalise peace with Azerbaijan, establish diplomatic relations with Turkey and simultaneously deepen cooperation with the European Union and the United States. These goals are included in the government’s 2026–2031 programme presented by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Armenian media report.
