The body of Abakar Abakarov, the former co-founder of the Russian Congress of the Peoples of the Caucasus and the alleged owner of the "Utro Dagestan" Telegram channel, was found in a rented villa in Istanbul. Media reports indicate the cause of death was stab wounds, although this information has not yet been officially confirmed.

Today, Azerbaijan celebrates the 34th anniversary of its restoration of state independence. On August 30, 1991, the Supreme Council of the Republic adopted the Declaration on the Restoration of Independence, and on October 18 of the same year, the Constitutional Act enshrining this status was adopted.

The Kyiv District Court of Simferopol remanded four Crimean Tatar women: Esma Nimetulayeva, Elviza Aliyeva, Nasiba Saidova, and Fevziye Osmanova, in pretrial detention for two months. The hearing was held behind closed doors, with limited access for support.

Former head of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration and former president of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), Ramiz Mehdiyev, will be removed from the Security Council on charges of attempting to seize power. The Southern District Military Court found Islam Batsiev, a native of Dagestan, guilty of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer (Article 317 of the Russian Criminal Code) for participating in the attack on Pskov paratroopers as part of Basayev and Khattab's field detachment. Batsiev was sentenced to 21 years in a maximum-security penal colony.

An assassination attempt on Vladimir Osechkin, the founder of Gulagu.net, was thwarted in France. French intelligence agencies arrested a group of individuals suspected of plotting the murder of the Russian opposition leader. Three natives of Dagestan were among those detained.

Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili, whose legitimacy is disputed by the opposition and a significant portion of civil society, has signed a bill toughening penalties for violations related to assemblies and demonstrations. The document amends the Code of Administrative Offenses and the Criminal Code of Georgia.

The former mayor of Makhachkala, Magomed Suleimanov, who is on the international wanted list, is accused of accepting a bribe on an especially large scale (74.5 million rubles) and abuse of office.
