Five citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina have died while climbing Mount Elbrus in Russia’s Kabardino-Balkaria republic. 

Dagestan, which had remained one of Russia’s fastest-growing tourist destinations for several years, has recorded a drop in tourist traffic for the first time in that period. In the first half of the year, the republic was visited by 719,000 people—15% fewer than the year before.

Last season, Russia's ski resorts attracted over 8 million tourists, and this number is expected to increase by another 10% in the 2025-2026 season. Resorts in the North Caucasus Federal District (NCFD) are making a significant contribution to this growth, according to Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko.

The regions of the North Caucasus Federal District (NCFD) will continue to see growth in tourist flow in 2025. Head of Kabardino-Balkaria, Kazbek Kokov, reported a record figure: the region welcomed over two million tourists, a 13.7% increase over 2024.

Regions of the North Caucasus will become part of the "Sacred Path" project, aimed at developing Islamic religious tourism in Russia. The project was developed by the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia (SAMR).

During the New Year holidays, ski resorts in the North Caucasus Federal District (NCFD) welcomed 70,700 guests, an 18% increase compared to last year. This figure, published by the Kavkaz.RF development institute, reflects the number of cable car users.
