Independent journalists, human rights defenders and activists have been arrested on politically motivated charges in Azerbaijan in recent months. In particular, representatives of such independent media as Abzas Media, Toplum TV, Channel 11 and Channel 13, and participants in political movements were arrested. The press service for foreign affairs and security of the European Union recalled this.

Six residents of Karachay-Cherkessia were sent to a pre-trial detention center in connection with the case of involvement in At-Takfir wal-Hijra. They are accused of participating in an extremist organization.

The European Court ordered the Russian authorities to pay 52 thousand euros to Zarema Musayeva, who is being held in a Chechen penal colony. She was detained and tried for a crime she did not commit, in order to intimidate her loved ones. The ECHR also ruled that Musayeva and her relatives were subjected to inhuman and degrading treatment, the Team Against Torture reported.
