Georgia issues first prison sentences for refusing to testify to parliamentary investigative commission

Tbilisi City Court has issued sentences to two opposition leaders – Zurab Girchi Japaridze (Coalition for Change, Girchi – More Freedom party) and Mamuka Khazaradze (Strong Georgia coalition, Lelo party). They were sentenced to seven and eight months in prison, respectively, for refusing to testify to the parliamentary investigative commission investigating the alleged crimes of the previous authorities.

Ingushetia took 83rd place out of 85 regions of the Russian Federation in the socio-economic development rating for 2024, published by RIA Novosti. Karachay-Cherkessia is in 80th place, North Ossetia is in 78th place, and Kabardino-Balkaria is in 77th place. Chechnya is in 75th place.

Instead of the Supreme Court of Dagestan, the criminal case against the former Sports Minister and former head of Kizilyurt Magomed Magomedov will be heard by the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don. This decision, made at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office, is related to security concerns for the participants in the process, since one of the defendants has "ethno-clan connections" in the republic's law enforcement agencies and can influence the course of the proceedings.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has put Apti Alaudinov, deputy head of the Main Military-Political Directorate of the Russian Defense Ministry and commander of the Akhmat special forces, on wanted list. He is charged with "encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine."
