The Kazakhstan Transport Ministry has published a preliminary report on the investigation into the crash of the Embraer 190 passenger airliner of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL). The document states that before the impact with the ground, the aircraft received through and non-through damage of various shapes. Some of them (having a regular rectangular shape) could have been caused by "external objects that penetrated the aircraft components." As part of the investigation, foreign objects found in the fin and stabilizer area were removed for further analysis.
