Azerbaijani Opposition Starves in Detention Center 45th Day

Azerbaijan People’s Front party activist Zamin Salayev continues his hunger strike in Baku remand centre for 45 days. He lost 30 kilos and often loses consciousness. 

According to counsel, Salaev is still not under medical supervision and has not been transferred to a medical unit. As for the two visits of the Ombudsman to SIZO, they were unsuccessful.

Recall that Zamin Salaev demands the release and termination of the fabricated criminal case against him. He was arrested on 8 February on charges of hooliganism and use of force. Salaev stated that the accusation against him was false: he did not attack anyone, but defended against an unknown passer-by with a knife.

The court has filed a claim for compensation for moral suffering in the amount of 300 million rubles from Ismail Eljarkiev. The demands were directed to the accused of killing his brothers, one of whom was Ibrahim Eljarkiev, head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Centre for Combating Extremism. Ismail Eljarkiev is recognized as a civil plaintiff.
