The Wall Street Journal, citing Ukrainian intelligence and security officials, reported that at the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov to occupy government buildings in Kyiv and kill Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.

The crime is classified as a terrorist attack. There are 11 defendants in the case. The investigation considers businessman Khasan Polonkoev to be the organizer.

On December 8, the director of ChGTRK “Grozny” Chingiz Akhmadov accused the head of the government of unrecognized Ichkeria Akhmed Zakayev of the murder of Chechen opposition blogger Tumso Abdurakhmanov. The next day, information appeared that the blogger was alive and testifying in Munich in court in the case of an attempt on the life of his younger brother Mohammad Abdurakhmanov.
