OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Teresa Ribeiro called on the Azerbaijani authorities to release all media workers who are under arrest. In particular, 14 employees of the independent publication Toplum TV were detained the day before. Three have been charged with smuggling: correspondent Farid Ismailov, video editor Mushvig Jabbar, social media manager Elmir Abbasov.

The Memorial Human Rights Center recognized one of its founders, 70-year-old Oleg Orlov, as a political prisoner. He was sentenced to two and a half years in prison on charges of “re-discrediting” the army. The human rights activist was tried for an anti-war article in which he called the Putin regime fascist.

Journalists in Azerbaijan are subject to criminal prosecution and arrest for their professional activities. 16 of them were imprisoned. This was reported in the report of the Platform for the Protection and Security of Media Representatives of the Council of Europe.

A court in Crimea arrested until May 4 Crimean Tatar activists Memet Lyumanov, Aziz Azizov and Mustafa Abduramanov in the case of a terrorist organization. A little earlier, journalist Rustem Osmanov was placed in a pre-trial detention center.

The Kiev District Court of Simferopol arrested until May 4 the citizen journalist of Crimean Solidarity Rustem Osmanov. He is accused of involvement in a terrorist organization (Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code).
