Authorities in Kabardino-Balkaria have once again denied permission for a memorial march to be held on May 21—Remembrance Day for the Adyghe (Circassians), victims of the Caucasian War.

Azerbaijan has been hit by unusually heavy rainfall: between 70 and 103 mm of rain fell in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula over the past 24 hours.

A major fire broke out in a multi-story building on Umar Sadaev Street in Grozny. Several people were injured, and over 300 residents were forced to evacuate their apartments.

On the night of May 9, an incident involving drones occurred in Chechnya, injuring at least six people. According to local media reports, the attack, presumably carried out by Ukrainian drones, resulted in damage to several facilities.

A ceremonial unveiling of a bust of Joseph Stalin took place at the Dagdizel Plant JSC in Kaspiysk. The event was timed to coincide with the May 9th holiday. In 2025, a memorial plaque in Stalin's honor was unveiled at the plant, and the plant square was named after him.

Azerbaijani parliament member Vasif Gafarov proposed renaming all streets in the country with Soviet-era names.

The new acting head of Dagestan, Fyodor Shchukin, has decided to dismiss the entire republican government. Magomed Ramazanov, who served as deputy presidential plenipotentiary representative in the Far Eastern Federal District and has experience with the FSB, was previously appointed to the vacant position of chairman of the regional government by presidential decree.

In Crimea, police officers issued human rights activist Abdureshit Dzhepparov a warning against violating the law. Law enforcement officials explained the document's origins in connection with the upcoming holiday on May 9th, but such actions typically occur shortly before the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Deportation of the Crimean Tatar People (May 18th).
