On April 24, the Leninsky District Court of Vladikavkaz will hold a preliminary hearing of the new examination of the «Tskaev case», closed to the press. On 7 March, the Fifth Court of Cassation reversed the decision of the Leninsky District Court of Vladikavkaz and returned the case to consideration.

The Southern District Military Court handed down a verdict in the case of three former employees of the Anti-Terrorist Center of Chechnya - Rustam Buluyev, Ruslan Namatov and Artur Ushaev. They were sentenced to terms ranging from 21 to 24 years on charges of banditry, murder and terrorism.

In the Southern District Military Court, the arrest of political prisoners Alimu Sufyanov and Seyran Hayredinov was extended for three months in the pre-trial detention centre. Aleksandr Sisikov with a disability of the first group of vision was extended his house arrest for the same period.

The court in Baku extended the period of arrest of public activist Bakhtiyar Hajiyev for another two months - until June 28. The defense disagreed with this decision.   

Mahdi Magomedov, one of the alleged participants of the detachments of field commanders Shamil Basayev and Khattab, was found guilty of attempting to harm the lives of soldiers. According to the investigation, in February 2000, a man attacked the Airborne Forces. 

The Sevastopol garrison military court found Ismail Dzangiev, a soldier from Ingushetia, guilty of attempting to assassinate a platoon commander after the death of his brother in a combat zone in Ukraine. The accused was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment. 

The Supreme Court of Chechnya decided to refer the criminal case of torture of actor Timur Debishev for a new examination. Thus, the highest regional court did not support another refusal to investigate the crime.

The Supreme Court of Russia confirmed five years of imprisonment to the native of Dagestan Murad Dadashev. Such a term was given to him for posting on the Internet clips with supporters of the independence of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria and photos of field commander Shamil Basayev. The accused himself claimed that he had not published anything.

The Association «Vaifonda» has received a notification from the Commission for the Control of Files of Interpol on the withdrawal of Dagestan preacher Israel Akhmednabiyev, better known as Abu Umar Sashilinsky, from the international search. The Commission concluded that the political or religious objectives prevailed in the Ahmednabiyev case and therefore did not satisfy the requirements of article 3 of the Interpol Statute. There are also witnesses in the case file who testified under torture.

On April 18, the Supreme Court of Chechnya returned to the first instance the refusal decision on the application of actor Timur Debishev, who demands that a criminal case be opened regarding the torture used against him.
