If the bill on foreign agents is adopted in Georgia, it will negatively affect the work of the media and NGOs, including those working in the field of human rights and democracy. This was stated in a letter from Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Michael O'Flaherty addressed to the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili.

Russian writer Boris Akunin (Grigory Chkhartishvili), born in Georgia and living abroad, commented on the plans of the authorities of his homeland to approve the law on “foreign agents”.

Answering a question about the impact of the law on foreign agents initiated by the Georgian authorities, EU Ambassador to Georgia Pavel Gerchinsky said that it is incompatible with European norms and values.
