The defense team for Vardan Ghukasyan, the mayor of Gyumri, the second-largest city in Armenia, has demanded his immediate release. His lawyers claim that Ghukasyan's detention for the past 12 days is illegal.

The Neftekumsk City Court in Stavropol Krai sentenced Osman Kundugdyev, the former imam of the village of Kok-Bas, to 12 years in a maximum-security penal colony. He was accused of organizing an extremist group.

Chechnya's Mufti, Salah Mezhiyev, issued a statement in response to criticism from Russia's Chief Rabbi, Berel Lazar. In an interview on a Chechen television channel, the Mufti of Chechnya, Salah Mezhiyev, called Jews "enemies of Allah" and "the founders of atheism." The comment was made on the program "Chechen History. War and Peace," where Mezhiyev, who is also the head of the Coordination Center for Muslims of the North Caucasus, discussed apostasy.

The Supreme Court of Chechnya has declared the opposition movement Niyso an extremist organization and banned its activities in the Russian Federation. The ruling was based on a lawsuit filed by the regional prosecutor.

The Supreme Court of Ingushetia has upheld the decision to extend the arrest of Ingushneft executive director Umar Balayev, who is accused of illegal oil production and other crimes. Balayev will remain in custody until November 20, bringing his total time in pretrial detention to more than eight months.

The Federal Security Service (FSB) detained a 45-year-old man in Stavropol Krai on suspicion of plotting a terrorist attack. According to RIA Novosti, the detainee was planning to blow up a transportation facility.

The mobile app "Desharkho" for learning the Chechen language is now available to schoolchildren in the Chechen Republic. The presentation of the resource, developed by the Center for Educational Information Technologies, took place at the Institute of the Chechen Language.
